Manufacturer:- www.safe-light.com First of all another big thank you to James Mayer of Safe-Light for supplying me with this review sample. This is something a little different from my usual aluminium hard and shiny high cost models that I have been reviewing of late. Here we have a low cost light with multiple output modes and a novel always on find me mode. Lets make a start. The first thing that strikes you about this light is that is not your average round tube that most flashlights resemble. This light is a a compact rectangular shape with the round window located in one end for the light output. The other thing that may strike you is this light resembles a Volvo car in one quite useful way. LOL The side lights are always on, or in the case of this torch the LED is always on at a very low level so that you can find it in the dark. A very useful feature. The light is made from injection molded plastics and seems to use two different types in its construction. The inner hard plastic shell and an outer softer rubber like cover. The outer covering also provides the support for the plastic lens cover and protects the operating push button. The rear of the light has a removable pocket clip. This is very versatile in that it can be rotated through 360 degrees and it also contains a magnet to hold the light on say the bonnet (Hood) of your car or other similar steel surfaces. The base of the light is used to retain the single PP3 9Volt battery. It has a slot that I found a 5pence piece fitted perfectly. Just rotate in the direction of the open arrow to release the battery compartment door. The light come supplied with its own (volt battery which looks to be a normal zinc carbon type. An alkaline one would probably be a better choice and last a bit longer. The battery polarity is marked on the inside of the compartment. I don't know if the light is protected from reverse polarity or not, but I'd advise against putting the battery in the wrong way round. As supplied the light comes set into retail demo mode. This means that it is always on and will illuminate to full power for a few seconds when you press the operating push button. The light has an card attached that warns you of this and tells you how to exit the demo mode. What you need to do is press and hold the button down for over 15 Seconds. The light is now ready to use. Using the light is really simple. Just quickly click the button to turn on in low power mode, click again for high power mode and again for SOS mode. Once in SOS mode click again to switch off. But there are a few more tricks you can do. If the light is on in any of the modes you can turn it off by holding the button down. It will flash briefly to let you know and then turn off. I am not sure that I like the flash as if you are in low mode it suddenly gets very bright and then goes dark. Just turning off would be a better choice in my opinion. If the light is switched off and the the LED is still illuminated in the ultra low find me mode. You can opt to completely turn the LED off by pressing and holding the button. Please note that in this mode the light still consumes a little power and it would need a new battery after about a year. I think it's better to leave it in find me mode. Also something to remember is that you can put the light back into retail demo mode by holding the button down for 15 seconds. Why would you want to do that? You may ask. Well if you transport the light say in a backpack it would stop it from turning on for long periods and flattening the battery. So a useful lock out mode so to speak.

The light uses the new higher output Nichia 5mm LED. This gives a decent amount of light in high mode. Don't expect it to light up things yards away though. This is ideally a light designed for close up work or navigating around a dark room at night. It's not the sort of light you want for walking the dog or looking for intruders at the bottom of your garden. There are more suitable products for that. It does make an excellent emergency light though. The always on feature means you can find it in a pitch black room with ease. I would probably carry one in the glove box of my car just in case. My current unit sits next to my bed at night and shines it's find me glow onto the ceiling. The runtimes quoted are pretty impressive at around 20 hours on full power and double that on low. I am yet to do my own runtime tests but these will happen in due coarse.
