www.neoca.com.ar This is the first of several lights from a new custom light manufacturer / enthusiast from Argentina. What a great way to start! My first all brass light. Such a nice material to hold and even better to look at. Only downside is the weight, but I can live with that. The light is design around the super small Lithium CR2 cell. As was the recent Katokichi light I bought. The design is cylindrical in shape and looks a lot like a lipstick dispenser. The finish is really excellent with a mirror polish. Very fine machining marks are visible if you catch the light correctly. This adds to the effect on the surface and is something I think adds to the look of the light. The parts fit together on a fine screw thread. This requires a few turns to unscrew and thus I doubt it would ever happen by accident. The turns are silky smooth and it feels like a quality brass instrument like an old telescope. An O-ring seals the parts from the elements. Inside the CR2 cell fits with the +ve end towards the light output end of the light. The -ve end sits on a slightly raised pip in the base of the tube which should give a good contact point and accommodate different makes of cells without any problems. The head of the light contains the electronics assembly, the Lumileds Luxeon III LED and an UCL glass lens sealed with another O-ring. The electronics are a common favourite of CPF users available from The Sandwich Shoppe the version in this particular light is the Badboy NexGen 400 which is set to give a 400mA drive to the LED. This is the spec for the NexGen board from the Sandwich Shoppe site.
This will give semi regulation along with full constant current regulation over 3.4V. So possibly a good choice if I want to use a rechargeable cell in it. In use you simply turn two half's of the light together to switch it on. When switched off the light does exhibit some battery rattle. But this can be solved with a little home made foam ring. I like the rattle, but I am weird like that! The front end contains a S017XA reflector which produces an excellent quality beam and hotspot with a large even side spill of light. The very front of the light is sealed with a UCL lens with an anti reflective light transmissible coating. See www.flashlightlens.com for more. The tail of the light contains an ARC style (Ducks) split ring attachment point. This will allow you to put it on a key ring or as I will probably do make one of these cool thingies www.chrisreeve.com/knotright.htm I can see this light becoming my EDC as it meets most of my requirements for a nicely built not too expensive, replaceable and great looking / functioning torch. |

The light output is wonderful with a nice centre hotspot with a smooth surrounding side spill of light. The colour of the LED is very subjective but does appear to be very white to my eyes in comparison with other white Luxeon III that I own. It is slightly greener than the Katokichi light. This will be due to the TW0J Bin code of the LED. T=67.2-87.4 Lumens |
