This is a very elegant looking LED torch. It uses 5 Nicha LED's to produce quite a respectable amount of light.

Features

This is the newest version of the light and it has some nice features.

The unit is powered by a two 3V 123A lithium batteries. These are the type used in many cameras and can be expensive. They are installed + side down in the light body towards the tailcap and the aluminium tailcap is then screwed into place. The light operation is very simple, screw on the tailcap till the light comes on, then unscrew it till is turns off. If you then turn it back half a turn from this point the pushbutton on the tailcap can be used for momentary operation. Turning it yet another half turn will prevent inadvertent operation by disabling the tail pushbutton.

The LED's are standard Nicha 5mm types as found in many LED torches. What is different is how they are mounted into the head of the light. They are contained inside a machined stainless steel bezel. This protects the LED's from any frontal or side impact and also provides a good heatsink to keep them cool when in use, thus extending their useful Lifespan.

The light body is machined from high grade aluminium as is the tailcap. They are supposedly type III hard anodised, but I thought that this only came in black and natural grey/green. So I am unsure of the exact finish type. It is still a very good finish and a very smart looking device!

The beam from the light is not what I expected. I thought that I would get five distinct hotspots from each of the LED's but they combine seamlessly into one. This gives a very even beam with a slightly blue tint that is normal with these Nicha LED's. The battery life is quoted as 20 hours. I have not proved this for myself yet. Because this light has no regulation electronics the light will get dimmer as the batteries go flat. But 20 hours is still impressive for a light this size!

Because the lithium batteries have a shelf light of 10 years this would make a excellent emergency backup light to stash in your car or home. Knowing that when you need it it will work perfectly. It's also good as an every day light for walking the dog etc. The throw is not as good as some other lights but is fine for night adapted eyes. It could get expensive to run if used regularly (check links at the end for cheap lithium cells).

Other LED colours are available for different tasks. For example RED for preventing night vision blindness and UV for checking security markings or banknotes.
