A few pictures of my shiny new Air Arms S400 GML Hunter.

It's been in storage for a while by the previous owner and not used by them very much as it came to me looking pretty much brand new. It is by all accounts one of the last ones sold by Blackpool Air Rifles.

This is the Hunter version and has a matt black rather than a blued finish to all of the metalwork. It also has the newer air filler design along with the laser etched walnut stock.

As far as I can tell the main differences to the standard Air Arms S400 Classic are :-

1.) Carbine barrel fitted instead of standard Classic barrel
2.) Custom Barrel muzzle flip / silencer adapter
3.) Custom Barrel reinforcing after breach block
4.) Custom Bolt Handle
5.) Bolt action polished for ultra smooth operation
6.) Stainless Steel bolts replacing standard steel items
7.) Trigger adjusted for very light operation
8.) Blacked out matt finish instead of shiny blued steel

It has since has the trigger shimmed on Nylon Washers by myself. This gives a smoother feel to the trigger and a better release of the first stage should you decide to back off on the trigger to have another go. While it was in bit to get at the trigger sears I noticed that the bolt was a little bit too well greased and it was dropping down onto the hammer and slide. So I cleaned it all off and applied a smaller amount of moly grease just to the bolt slide. The hammer should run totally non lubricated for maximum consistency.

I did a chrono test when new and again when I had used it for a bit. They are pretty good with what looks like the optimum fill around 160 Bar.

So far I am amazed how nice it is to shoot. The groups at 30 and 40 yards are very very consistent. I've only been round the Lincs HFT course twice with it so far, but it equalled my personal best with a 58ex60 on the first time out!! With a follow up score of another 58ex60. I'll see how it gets on in the NEFTA rounds later in the week.

So far I am very pleased with my new purchase.

I'll add some more info when I get the chance.
